Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue Helping Labs Find Their Fur-Ever Homes
|

Brookline got a call that there were 6 Lab pups and an adult female that needed our help. Our great
group of volunteers started one of the largest surrenders we had undertaken and it was a huge
success. A ‘puppy train’ departed on a Friday evening to pick up the precious cargo and deliver them to
Dr. Brad Holmsten at the Animal Clinic of Westtown Village for a check on their health and to receive
their immunizations. Sometimes we don’t know the vaccination history or the previous living conditions
for these dogs, so we have to turn to our veterinarians to help us. Each dog was examined and
immunized. There were only a few ear infections, some minor skin problems and everyone needed a
bath or two. Dr. Holmsten’s waiting room was a sea of black and chocolate Labs. What a wonderful
sight!
The next leg of the journey for these dogs was back into the cars for another long ride to their new foster
homes. Another set of volunteers met up at the veterinarian’s office to pick up and deliver these
precious souls to their temporary homes. The foster families offer these dogs warmth, love and
confidence. Some don’t know how to play with toys so you can imagine the joy of seeing them pick up a
toy and play for the first time. Some aren’t very trusting of humans so you can imagine the feeling when
they lie at your feet for the first time. These dogs will continue to be fostered for 2 to 3 weeks as we learn
about their personalities and can begin to find the perfect family for them.
This is a story about 7 beautiful Labs who will have a wonderful, healthy and happy life. But, none of this
could have happened without our network of volunteers and foster homes. If you would like to become a
